Everything is Figureoutable is one of the books I was waiting to be published. I have been following Marie Forleo for a long time. I love her YouTube Channel #marietv and am a frequent viewer of it. Through this book Marie Forleo gives us a tool to lead a life we dreamed of. She started the book by explaining how she got the mantra 'Everything Is Figureoutable' from her mother. It was followed by how it worked throughout her life and still working. The book is not just a life story but it gives steps to follow to make this mantra in your life. She also gave examples of how this mantra worked in other people's life from all around the world who got this idea from #marietv.
The book starts with the quote 'The power isn't out there, it's in you'. There are ten main contents in the book. In the first section she explained how she got the Everything is Figureoutable mantra from her mother. In the second section she gives the road maps to achieve your dream. She explains how to train your brain for growth by tackling the usual mental chatters like 'I know this already; this won't work for me'. Before you close your mind by saying 'everything is not figureoutable' you must give a chance by trying it in your life. You have to make a move even for a small change instead of just thinking about it. But you will be ready to make a move only if you believe.
The third concept of the book is 'The Magic of Belief'. In order to achieve something, that 'something' should have to come to your mind as a thought. But just the thought doesn't make it into reality. As explained in the book 'Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill' the burning desire with faith will make your legs move, as you already saw your fulfilled desire in your mind. And this is the concept of manifestation as well. When you look deep inside, you will realize that you are holding onto the limiting beliefs that was implanted in you from your childhood onwards by the environment, through life experiences, through evidences provided by authoritative figures and sources like scientists, research studies, through examples of others or our own created beliefs. When you realize that all beliefs are a choice and choices can be changed, you can change your limiting beliefs. And I think limiting beliefs are some of our excuses to go for our dreams.
The fourth chapter of the book describes how to eliminate the excuses to accomplish your goal. When you come up with excuses you frame yourself as victims. To escape from the excuses you have to be100 percent responsible for your life. Marie Forleo shared the common excuses in the book - 'I don't have time, I don't have the money, I don't know how/I don't know where to start' and she also provided detailed steps for each excuse to tackle it. One of the main reason we are coming up with excuses are our fears. The fear of failure. The fear of judgement. Fear is another reason that drives you away from the mantra 'Everything is figureoutable' and hence your dreams.
The fifth section of the book elucidate how to deal with fear of anything. Marie Forleo explains 'Fear' is something you have to embrace. Being afraid doesn't mean you are broken. It just means you are human. According to her the fear is not your enemy instead it is your soul's GPS. Fear is a signpost that pointing to the exact direction your soul wants to go. She also describes how to distinguish between feeling of fear and intuition. If the situation makes you expansive that is your intuition otherwise it is fear. Most of us are afraid about failures. But you should know that failure is just an event not a characteristic. People can't be failures. Once you are ready to leave your excuses and embrace your fear, the next step is defining your dream. Clarity comes from engagement, not thought.
The sixth chapter helps you to track down your dreams from the list of top one-year dreams to the most important dream based on how important it is and its relevance. Once you choose the dream you have to make it specific, measurable and actionable. Once you define your dream and is ready with actionable items, the next obstacle is that the feeling of 'not ready yet'. As per Marie Forleo you will never feel ready to do the important things you're meant to d, but you should to it anyway.
The seventh section of the book provides steps to master the art of starting before you're ready. 'I'm not ready yet' is just a voice and it has power only when you grant authority and attention to it. Marie Forleo explains that action comes before the courage to act. Action spawns courage, not the other way. Most of us waiting for the courage to take an action. But it is on the other way around. She elaborates the different versions of 'I'm not ready yet'. One of them is procrastination disguised as 'Research and Planning'. Instead of losing yourself in the vast internet world be specific with your dream and action and stick with it. Another version of procrastination is your search for certainty or comfort. But everything you dream of becoming, achieving, or figuring out exists in the growth zone not in the comfort zone. When you leave your comfort zone and embrace growth zone your growth zone became your next comfort zone. You should focus on progress not on perfection during this endeavor.
The eighth chapter explains why and how to choose progress instead of perfection. Perfectionism originates from fear and it is different from having and holding yourself to high standard. Progress is not a straight line. The section provides characteristics of progress and perfection. Also six tactics to stay in the progress zone - take small steps and ignore big drama, plan ahead for problems, expect self doubt, ask what's next right move, use the power of positive quitting and cultivate patience. When you realise that you are progressing on your dream you will face obstacles from your loved ones, guides, masters in the similar fields. But you never know what is truly possible unless you try it.
The ninth section of the book explains how to refuse to be refused. There will be a group people telling you the dream is not possible. Just remember that it is not possible in their reality, not in your reality. Refusing to be refused means taking a stand for yourself and protecting your dreams. When you face criticism, you should know the source of it. Sometimes you might have to laugh at the criticism that doesn't have anything to do with your work. The book tells the ultimate secret to refuse to be refused is to tie your dream with something beyond yourself. When you associate your dream with service to others you won't let others to stop you. When you are in service you are giving a gift to the world.
The last section of the book explains that the world needs your gifts. There are people out there waiting for you. If you are not ready to work with your dream, you are refusing to give away the innate power that's only available to you. As you know each and every individual in the earth is unique and you have the unique gifts that only you can provide to the world. When you are not ready to figure out the dream, you are stealing those gifts from who need it the most. In the epilogue, Marie Forleo explains how to continue your success. You should go beyond yourself. Think in terms of we, not me. Build your figureoutable force field by investing in figureoutable friends, provide ideas at work to things need to get figured out.
The book can be described as a self-help book that helps you to develop yourself as a person and as a guide that provides step by step instruction to achieve your dreams. In each section there are multiple testimonials from common people who used the mantra and figured out their dreams and to get out of their struggles. Remind yourself everyday 'Everything is Figureotable' and it pops up in your mind when it's most needed in your life. When you are stuck in your life or you are trapped in fear just remember the mantra. And yes, everything is figureoutable and the world is waiting for you. You could see how a 16 year old Greta Thunberg's fight for climate change infront of the Swedish parliament lead to a world wide protest for global warming. You never know the impact you are going to make. The world needs you. More than that you need your dream.
